Audra Mcdonald is unique in her breadth of talent and her versatility in her roles as a performer and singer. Audra McDonald, who won Six Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was recognized as one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people. President Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -the highest honor in America for achievements in this field. A luminous singer with an unmatched gift of emotional truth-telling Ms. O'Connor is at ease on Broadway as well as the opera stage and in TV. Aside from her theater work, McDonald also has a thriving career as an international music and concert performer. McDonald was born into a musical family in Fresno, CA. She received classical vocal instruction from the Juilliard School of New York. In 1994, just a few years after she graduated from Juilliard School, McDonald won the Tony Award for "Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a the Musical" for her performance in Carousel. In the following four years, performing in Broadway's premieres, Master Class by Terrence M. McNally (1996) in addition to Ragtime (1998), she was awarded two more Tony Awards. In 2004, she was in the running to win her 4th Tony Award. She was in the role of A Raisin in the Sun together with Sean Diddy Combs. And in 2012, her 5th Tony as well as her first win award in the category Leading Actress was won for her performance as the titular character in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. The year 2014 saw her make Broadway history by becoming the Tony Awards most decorated performer when she won her sixth award for her performance as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill the role which also served as a vehicle for her Olivier Award-nominated debut performance on London's West End. McDonald's theater credits also comprise The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (99) Henry IV (2007) 110 in the Shade (2008) Twelfth (2009), which was her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut, Shuffle Along or The Making of the Musical sensation of 1921 as well as the series That Followed (2017) Frankie & Johnny in Clair de Lune (2018) and Ohio State Murders 2023. McDonald first appeared on television as a dramatic actor on The Peabody Award winner CBS series Having Our Say - The Delany Sisters' First 100 years. Her next appearance was that of a regular actor on the NBC show Law & Order Special Victims Unit and she appeared with Kathy Bates and Victor Garber. McDonald's performance in the HBO production Lady Day At Emerson Bar & Grill received her four times an Emmy nomination in 2016. The Bite was a six episodes pandemic-themed drama created by Spectrum Originals in collaboration with CBS Studios. The actress first appeared as U.S. attorney Liz Lawrence in 2009 on CBS's medical show The Good Wife in 2018 McDonald took on her role (now named Liz Reddick) as a season regular on The Good Fight on Paramount+ receiving 3 Critics Choice Award nominations for her performance. She is currently acting as a guest in Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which airs on HBO.
